Breast Fat Transfer

When it comes to the breast augmentation, most people only know about the concept of using a silicon breast implant to augment the size and shape of the breasts. But for a long time now, surgeons have been working with various fat transfer techniques to provide a breast augmentation procedure with the person’s own fat reserves. In the fat transfer breast augmentation, this is done through the grafting of fat cells that have been harvested from other regions of the body. Since it is yor body’s own fat, the chance of rejection is minimal and in most cases the outcome of the procedure is a long lasting improvement to one’s breasts.

The fat transfer breast augmentation procedure was not actually developed for the cosmetic procedures but that does not mean you can not have it done for cosmetic reasons. In general, this form of breast augmentation has been proven to be successful for the treatment of underdeveloped breasts and even on persons who have had a mastectomy or a breast implant collapse.

Basically the procedure of fat grafting involves the surgeon finding a donor sight from which to harvest the fat cells from. He or she will then place the harvested fat cells into a centrifuge as a means of refining it and then screening the fat cells to remove any impurities. The surgeon will then make a series of two millimeter incisions around each breast and then inject the fat in layers. They cannot just lump it in there because the amount need could simply die in the body if it is too thick. Fat cells are living tissue and like any living tissue they need a constant supply of blood. The surgeon will start in the far back, behind the pectoral muscles and inject a layer there, then working his or her way forward adding thin layers of fat cells as they go, they are able to augment the breasts.

After the four to five hour procedure and then several months of recovery, a person is ready to go. Furthermore, unlike the implant type of breast augmentation, the results are noticeable almost immediately following the procedure. Since there is also minimal irritation to the layers during the procedure, the chances of bruising or swelling are minimal.
