Otoplasty Risks - Before After Otoplasty Surgery - Did Brad Pitt Have Ear Surgery?

Brad Pitt Before After Otoplasty

The otoplasty surgery is surgery for the ears. Unlike other forms of ear surgery though, otoplasty is specifically designed for remedying ears that are too large or that appear to be too large because of the way they stick out. Otoplasty is a permanent procedure that is generally performed on children who are between the ages of four and fourteen years old as a means of normalizing their ears and preventing teasing and taunts. Ear Surgery is also possible for older adults, but in general it is usually performed on children.

During the ear surgery, the certified surgeon will make an incision along back side of the ear and then will either cut out a section of cartilage or fold it over on itself. The surgeon will then suture the cartilage repair together before closing up the incision.

The risks associated with an otoplasty surgery are usually very minimal as the otoplasty surgery is considered to be minimally invasive. The reason for this is for the simple fact that although there are literally millions of tiny blood vessels in the ear, there are no major arteries which can lead to a hemorrhage. Furthermore, the cartilage itself usually can take a lot of punishment without any real complications and therefore the otoplasty surgery’s risks and complications are therefore limited to an allergic reaction to the anesthetic or an infection. Both of which can be solved without much of an issue. Find out more about otoplasty recovery and cost.

If you are worried that your child’s ears may stick out too far, and that they may be the center of attention for their “Dumbo Ears” then chances are that the child may need an otoplasty procedure. Many children are teased and taunted all the way through childhood because of the way their ears stick out. All of these teases and taunts can cause irreparable emotional damage to the child. Fixing the cause of these malicious teases and taunts is the best way to remedy them. There may always be something that a child can be teased about, but in general, only a few things can follow them all the way through childhood and into adulthood. The ears are one of them that no matter how old a person is, they can still find time to make fun of someone whose ears stick out too far.
