Chin Implant Recovery Period - How Long Does it Take To Recover From Chin Implants?
The recovery period for the chin implant surgery is a bit different than many other cosmetic surgery procedures due to the location which is being worked on. For starters, you will have to deal with the normal swelling and bruising that is associated with virtually any surgical procedure. To help prevent this though, immediately following the actual surgical procedure, the area will be wrapped with tape and may also include some other packing material. This tape and other material will need to stay intact during the entire first week. Basically it needs to stay there until you go back in to see the surgeon to have the sutures removed.
You will more than likely have some oral pain and discomfort for the first couple of days as well as numbness in the chin region due to the stresses on the nerve endings in the jaw. This numbness can last up to a month or more depending on the circumstances and whether you are following the surgeon’s suggestions appropriately.
During this first week of recovery, talking as well as other facial features may be hard to perform and it is also suggested that you not even try as a means of preventing a possible complication. After the first week is up you will be going back in to see the surgeon and have the tape and sutures removed if necessary. From this point many people simply return back to work.
You will need to stay away from strenuous exercises for several weeks following the surgery but most people are set and ready to go by the end of the third week following the procedure. If there is still pain, discomfort or numbness after this point it will be important to keep the surgeon to date with any sudden changes between any of the three.
