What Is The Youngest Age To Have Plastic Surgery

It used to be that the arena of plastic surgery was for the old folks. They needed it in order to stay and feel they looked younger. In today’s world, more young people are electing to have cosmetic surgery procedures. The media makes it out to seem that teenage plastic surgery is now commonplace, but the truth of the matter is that those 18 and under only make up a small percentage, 4% of those having plastic surgery procedures.

Why Teens Want Plastic Surgery

Teenage boys are bombarded with photos of large breasted women who look perfect in every detail. It is never taken into account that most times, these pictures are air brushed and often the women depicted have had surgical enhancement or “repair” of many of their body parts. Teenage girls see the same images and think they need to look like the women in the magazines and on TV in order to live a happy and fulfilling life.

Many parents allow their children to have plastic surgery. It is not recommended that anyone under 18 have plastic surgery, but there may be times when this rule should be bypassed. If a child has an overly large nose that they have been teased and taunted about or if their ears stick out at an outrageous angle, then many times having plastic surgery to correct these types of problems can really leave teens happier and enjoying a better quality of life.

If teens think that having plastic surgery is the answer to everything, this is when it becomes a problem. Your child would be better suited to visiting a therapist than a plastic surgeon if they have real issues with their self esteem. There are some girls who do not see themselves as they really are; they compare themselves to images that are almost impossible to compete with.

What to Do if You are a Parent

Once your child turns 18, you can make an appointment with a plastic surgeon you trust and allow the doctor to make an evaluation to see if your child is a good candidate for plastic surgery. Often the doctor will detect your child has high expectations for what the surgery will do to improve their life, and will advise that they need to be educated to understand that no matter what they look like on the outside, they will still feel the same on the inside. Young girls of today need to understand that they don’t have to be perfectly beautiful in every way in order to have a successful and fulfilling life.
