Thighplasty / Thigh Lift Surgery

Thigh lift is a plastic surgery performed to improve the appearance of the thighs of a person and make them smooth and perfect. Aging or sudden fluctuations in weight or collection of fat deposits in the thighs cause them to look ungainly, wrinkled and ugly.

Thigh lifts can be done along with other plastic surgeries like butt augmentation. Body contouring is now fairly a common procedure and those who can afford it and have the time, the interest and the energy go in for it. A heavy or an ugly body can be demoralizing. The person may have low self-esteem or lack of confidence. In a society he may feel inferior. Body contouring through plastic surgery can definitely improve matters leaving the patient with a great deal of self-confidence and happiness.

Thigh lift surgery can be done on the inner thigh or the outer thighs. The procedure is an in- patient one lasting for about four to six hours. The doctor has to be carefully chosen after due study and research. His earlier case studies should be done and only when the patient is perfectly satisfied, the patient should approach the doctor.

The doctor will study the patient’s medical history thoroughly, observe the patients body and discuss with the patient what exactly needs to be done. He may prescribe some antibiotics in preparation for the surgery if it is decided to go in for it. The doctor and the hospital should be visited just before the operation to get the patient familiar with the person, the area and surroundings. The doctor will give advice on what to wear, what to eat and what to expect from the thigh lift procedure.

The patient has to stay in the hospital for a few days after the operation. He has to have a companion or a family member to bring him and take him back from the hospital. The thigh lift consists of making an incision at the skin at the body and the groin joint. The doctor will then lift the skin, tighten the muscles under it, remove fat through liposuction, and then carefully suture the incision. Bandages and probably a tube to drain off the accumulated fluid may be inserted. As liposuction consists of liquids inserted in the body, there may be fluids accumulation.

After the operation, the patient is encouraged to walk within 48 hours but should not climb stairs or squat. He is also advised not to drive for at least a week. There may be a resultant scar but it can be camouflaged or hidden by lingerie. The patient gets the best results after a couple of weeks after the swelling has reduced and the sutures absorbed or removed.
