Sagging of thighs or wrinkling may be due to age, sudden weight changes, heredity or some surgical process. A thigh lift surgery can easily correct the thighs and make them better looking and more appealing. The plastic surgeon makes an incision at the area between the thighs and the body, lifts the skin, tightens the skin and muscles, performs liposuction to remove excess fat and then sutures it back. The procedure takes a few hours but is not a life threatening one and relatively safe and common.
Things to be kept in mind are the faith in the surgeon, the mindset and the physical condition of the patient, and the care taken after the surgery. As liposuction consists of melting the fat by injecting warm fluids to remove them, drainage of fluids after the surgery is quite common. The doctor will insert a drainage tube, which will remain there till all the extra fluids are drained off, and the doctor is satisfied about the progress of the patient and his wound.
Painkillers and antibiotics will be prescribed which the patient has to religiously take to prevent any infection at the site of the operation. Some pain or discomfort, some redness and swelling are to be expected. The final result will be visible only after a few days and one should take that into account before deciding whether the operation was a success or not. Bed rest for a few days is recommended but the patient is advised to walk as soon as possible, within forty eight hours after the surgery, to get his thighs back to normal. However bending or squatting should not be done for fear of rupture of sutures. Climbing stairs is also to be avoided for a few days until the thigh lift recovery process is in full swing.
The bandages will be removed two or three days after the surgery and a light one will be put in its place. The patient can have a shower about forty-eight hours after the surgery. The patient will be able to resume his normal duties and begin going to work after about a week. The next visit to the hospital and the doctor will be after about 10 or 12 days unless some complications set in. In which case, he can report to the doctor earlier.
Swelling and pain will be totally gone after six weeks. The scars will fade but may not be totally invisible. There should be no exposure to the sun if there is any redness on the thighs. The patient can begin light exercises after six weeks but not over strain himself till at least six months after which the patient will be perfectly normal with a good thigh line.
