Stomach Stapling Diet


The diet associated with the stomach stapling procedure follows in suit with all of the other weight loss procedures. This diet plan starts long before the scheduling of the surgery as the patient will be asked to loose 10 to 15 pounds prior to the surgery so that the rapid weight loss afterwards will not cause as much of a shock to the body. This also helps to prepare you for the long term lack of nutrients caused by the inability of eating real food for the next 2 months following the surgery.

After the surgery has been completed though you will be only allowed to ingest clear liquids which at first these clear liquids will only be water as it is need to survive. The body can last for a long period of time without food but dehydration will kill you within a couple of days so even if you cannot drink bullion broth you should at least drink water. Later you will be able to expand this clear liquid diet to watered down juice drinks followed by broths.

After having to ingest only liquids for a long period of time which will account for basically the first full month following the procedure you will be able to graduate unto pureed foods. The best suggestion for this move in your diet is to invest in things like baby food which has a substantial amount of vitamins and nutrients the body needs and it is also has a flat PH making them a lot easier to ingest than anything else. You may even try different yogurts and gelatins but be weary as you may grow an intolerance to dairy products and should you eat gelatin that has sugar in it you may get dumping syndrome.

After a while you will be able to slowly work your way up to solid foods. In the event that you may have rushed and started up on solid foods to early you may find yourself getting nauseous in which case simply return to the pureed food. You do not want to rush the diet as it may cause complications, when your stomach is ready for solid foods it will let you eat them without a nauseous feeling.

For the remainder of your life you will have to eat slowly and chew your food completely as it only takes one bite to equal too much and start causing you pain. You will also not be able to eat things like peanut butter or anything that may be considered stringy as they can clog up you stomach which in turn leads to vomiting and pain.
