As soon as a girl reaches puberty, her breasts start developing along with other changes in her body. The size of the breasts depends on her build, the fat content in her body and heredity. Many medicines, lotions, potions exercises have been advised and endorsed by doctors, beauticians and quacks. But actually there is no sure fire remedy to small or ungainly breasts. Breast implants or breast augmentation is generally the only remedy and women since times immemorial have been trying it.
No surgery is allowed under law for girls below eighteen, as eighteen is the normal age when physical maturity is considered to reach its peak. Hence breast implants can only be considered after this age. Most women are not satisfied with their size and shape of their breasts. The first implant was done in 1895 and then various methods and implants have been tried, tested, experimented and improved upon. Cotton, wool, paraffin and other materials have been used down the ages to increase the size of the breasts and improve their contours. Some experiments have failed and others have been improved.
Silicone has been found to be very effective and relatively safe in breast implants. Saline is another material which has been used for breast augmentation. There are many pros and cons with the different material used to improve the size and shape of breasts. Saline or salt water is safe and is generally used for breast implants. A thick silicone case is inserted into the breast just above the breast bone and below the actual breast. As this is an empty sack, the incision can be small and easily hidden in the folds of the skin, the areola or from the armpit. Saline is then injected in sufficient quantity to reach the desired size of the breasts.
Saline is safe as it does no harm and is not dangerous. The only fear is that the water may leak into the body, making the implant shrink or get wrinkled or become less smooth which may be visible to the naked eye. Or the saline breast implant may get ruptured giving the skin and the breast a very ungainly look. The saline gets absorbed and does no harm to the patient. However despite these problems saline breast implants have been quite popular all over the world.
