Restylane Injections

As each and everyone of us ages, there are more and more tell tale signs of that aging that become visible especially having to do with the skin on our faces. Many people can easily recognize the folds and wrinkles on the face especially along the forehead, eyes and the corners of the mouth. While many people just let the natural progression of aging take its course, other cannot just sit back and are always looking for an alternative to the fountain of youth. Of course there is no fountain of youth, but since the mid 1990’s there has been the joy of the Restylane injection as a means to counter the natural aging process. You see, each of us produces a natural acid known as hyaluronic acid and as we age the amount of this product that we produce begins to falter. It is this hyaluronic acid that helps our skin maintain moisture and as a result keeps us looking young. When this natural production of hyaluronic acid fades away, we can turn to the Restylane injections as a means of supplementing this naturally occurring substance.

Restylane is not only the first but it is the only non-animal based filler that has been approved by the American Food and Drug Administration and although it was first released to the public in 1996 unapproved it soon got its approval status in 2003. The Restylane injection is still a fairly new concept but despite its relatively young age is has been used successfully in over a million procedures in 60 countries world wide.

The Restylane injections are used not only as a filler but as a means of reducing fine lines and wrinkling caused by the natural aging process. Furthermore the Restylane injections have proved itself useful as an alternative to the surgical lip augmentation procedure despite its 6 month period of usefulness. The best part is that as a person undergoes the second, third and even fourth treatment in the same area, the amount of Restylane needed falls dramatically. This is not to say that eventually you will not need to undergo anymore injections as the product is still to new to make this determination, but it does mean that as your treatments progress, the time in between treatments lengthens and the amount of Restylane needed lessens.

Make sure you check with your physician or dermatologist prior to making any final decisions on undergoing a Restylane treatment to ensure that you have an understanding of the procedure as well as the side effects, risks and complications that goes along with it.
