Pectoral implant surgery involves using silicone implants in the chest area to give a more muscular look and make the patient appear manly and macho. Many men do not have the time or the inclination to develop muscles by exercising and going to the gym. Yet they want to have a macho look. Some men do not have the physical structure for such an appearance. Others may be born with some defect, which prevents them from having a manly look. They may become conscious about their appearance especially when the chest is exposed during outdoor activities. All these men can get a physically better appearance by undergoing plastic surgery and having pectoral implants.
This does not mean that the chest will be broken to insert the implants. The procedure consists of making incisions in the armpits and inserting the specially made implants into the cavity between the muscles and the chest wall or the skin. These implants are made after measuring the chest of the patient and making them perfectly fitting. These implants are fixed by the existing muscles themselves and by self-absorbing stitches. The incision is then closed. The procedure takes two to three hours and is done under general anesthesia. The result of the surgery is immediate and the patient can see for himself the new look of the chest. Most patients are perfectly satisfied. This is a permanent implant rarely requiring anything more during the lifetime of the patient. The recovery is complete within two weeks. There are hardly any incision dressings or bleeding if the endoscopic method is used for the surgery. There are no draining tubes inserted, no bandages to change. There may be some pain, some bruising and a bit of swelling. Wearing an elastic bandage or vest will reduce the swelling and painkillers will stop the pain. The compression garment can be worn day and night for four weeks. Since the silicone implant is different from the female breast implant because of the different kind of silicone, there is no fear of leakage or rupture of the implant. A small risk of the implant to shift may be there, but it can be corrected.
Pectoral implants change the way a person’s chest looks but it does not affect the function. Normal movement and activity after full recovery can be done without any tension. The silicone implants neither add to the strength and power of the existing muscles nor do they hinder them in any way. |
