Neck Lift Recovery

When the neck becomes fleshy or loses its sleek shape and has wrinkles, it can look bad cosmetically. It may not cause any medical problems but appearance wise it may not look good. In such cases neck lifts help. Though one should not be too optimistic and expect miracles, neck lift surgeries certainly improve matters and give the patient a good look. He should be in a good framework of mind and physically healthy before a surgery can take place.  He should know exactly what to expect, what will happen and also what problems can arise during or after the surgery.

The selected surgeon is the best person with whom all details should be discussed so that the patient is not left in the dark. Once everything is clear, the date and day for surgery can be decided and implemented. The physical check up will be done and the patient readied for the surgery. The patient may be given anesthesia intravenously or it may be injected in them. The choice is theirs. After the anesthesia has been administered, the surgeon will make an incision below or behind the ear. In some cases an extra incision may be made below the chin.  He will carry out the procedure from this incision. The fat may be removed by liposuction, the skin trimmed and the incision sutured with removable or absorbable sutures. A bandage covering the area is put.

The procedure may take three to five hours depending whether it is done by itself or in combination with a face lift or chin lift. Occasionally the surgeon may feel that an injection of botox may solve the problem or it may be given in addition to the procedure. The patient is brought to the recovery room where his vital stats are checked. He will be covered with a warm rug as he may have a reaction of shivering from the medicines used. He may feel like throwing up which is an after effect of full anesthesia. His neck may feel swollen or he may have some pain or uneasiness. He should take complete rest for at least two days. His temperature should always be checked and if there is fever he should inform the doctor. Any unusual redness, discharge from the incision or swelling should be immediately reported. He should take care and not make any sudden movements of the neck. While sleeping he should have a comfortable pillow under his head.

A few days after the procedure his stitches will be removed and his bandages made lighter. His neck may still feel a bit soar but everything will be normal by six to ten weeks. The patient will then have the shape of his neck of their choice.
