Neck Lift Procedure

A wrinkled or a fleshy neck looks ungainly and bad. It may be due to weight fluctuations, ageing or heredity. It may also be due to some other operation or accident. Neck lift is an excellent procedure to correct all this. However one has to be physically and mentally fit to undergo this procedure. One should not be depressed or worried if one has to have the best results. Experienced surgeons do the neck lift and one should research and find out which surgeon suits.

The neck lift procedure should be discussed in detail, the pre operative and postoperative care should be known and so also the risks and the dangers in the procedure. All surgical processes carry some sort of a risk, however small and one has to be aware of them. The patient should discuss with the doctor the type of anesthesia to be administered, the duration of the stay in the hospital and the actual procedure. The patient should stop smoking or taking any medicines a few days before the procedure. He should inform the surgeon his allergies and possible medicine reactions so that he can take care to avoid them.

On the day of the surgery the patient will be checked again medically and then put on sedation or administered anesthesia. An incision is made below the ear or just behind it to reach the neck area. Liposuction may be used to remove excess fat. The muscles will be tightened and the extra skin cut off. The skin will then be tightened and bandages applied. The process may take about three hours but if it is combined with a face lift or chin lift, it may take longer.

Once the operation is over and the wound sutured. bandages will be put and the patient taken to the recovery room. The nurse will check the vital stats and then slowly the patient will regain consciousness. He may feel some discomfort, pain, some swelling or tightening which is all very normal. Medicines will remove all the discomforts. But if there is any fever or discharge or any abnormal swelling or pain, he should immediately consult the doctor.

The patient should not expect miracles as neck lift and other surgeries improve the appearance but do not perform miracles. He should sleep with a comfortable pillow for at least two weeks and not make sudden movements of the neck. After about two to three weeks, he will be back to normal and his neck will look graceful and attractive. In some cases an injection of botox will be sufficient to remove the damage in the neck area.
