Natural Breast Implants

If a woman is not satisfied with the size and shape of her breasts, she can always go in for breast implants or breast augmentation. This is a plastic surgery, which involves introducing an artificial implant in the breast to give it a bigger and better shape. The implant has to be smooth in texture and should look and feel like a real breast. The surgeon makes an incision in the breast and introduces the implant. He then stitches the incision, which completes the operation. This may take just an hour or two and is quite a common one.

However breast implants are a surgical procedure and all surgical processes have some sort of danger or risk involved in them. The body may reject the implant or it may cause some problem. It may harden or rupture or cause pain or heaviness. It may shift from its original place and need another procedure to bring it back in its place. Or it may cause wrinkles in the skin or puckering of the nipples.

The latest on this procedure is that the US scientists have claimed a break through in the process and are trying to have natural breast implants using human stem cells. At a US conference in 2005, scientists from the University of Illinois claimed that they took stem cells, which are designed to form fat cells, cultured them on a special gel like substance. The cells grew and multiplied and formed shapes which could be molded into the shapes of the doctors’ and the patients’ choice. They retain their sizes and shapes, the scientists informed. Since they are fat cells grown, they could not rupture or leak like artificial implants.

Some other researchers have been experimenting with combining a woman’s own fatty tissue with stem cells to make an absolutely natural implant so that there is no reaction or rejection by the body. However the quantity of fatty tissue needed is quite large. Another scientist, Dr Jeremy Mao declared at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science that he had used stem cells from the bone marrow of healthy volunteers using a needle, grew them and used them for natural breast implants. Stem cells from the bone marrow are capable of becoming many different cell types under suitable conditions.

Of course there are many pill manufacturers who claim that by using their medicines, breasts can be naturally made bigger. Pills and potions, massages and exercises are all being touted as natural breast enlargers.
