Mini Neck Lift

To have a better neck and to look beautiful, people with fats in their necks or sagging of the skin in the neck, go in for neck lifts or platsysmaplasty. The neck is an exposed part of a person’s body, highly visible in public and hence a person is very conscious of the sagging skin and fat deposits. These problems may arise of growing age or changes in weight or they may simply be hereditary. There is a solution for these problems. Plastic surgery is the safe and best bet to improve the looks of the neck but as it is a cosmetic surgery, insurance companies may not bear the costs.

Besides the normal neck lifts which may be combined with a face lift or chin lift, there is also another form of neck surgery called the mini neck lift. This is a smaller operation. This is done on patients, who have localized deposits of fat under the chin, or there is muscle laxity under the chin or there is some form of sagging.

The procedure is generally performed under local anesthesia and can be on an outpatient basis. The patient is given a medical check up, his vital stats are monitored and then the anesthesia is administered.  An incision is made under the chin and the fat is removed by liposuction. Fat can also be suctioned or removed by other means. The muscles are tightened and some extra skin may be removed. It varies from patient to patient and his condition. Sutures close up the wound and bandages are put on the neck. The procedure may last for about two hours. If there is any allergy to any anesthesia or medications, the surgeon should be told about it.

The patient may be hospitalized for a few hours but generally he can be allowed to go home with a plaster and a sling. There may be some initial discomfort like pain, swelling or skin abrasions but these can be controlled and cured by oral medication. Any excessive discomfort or selling or pain should be reported to the doctor immediately. The bruising and swelling disappear within two or three weeks and normal life can be resumed by three months. As the skin heals and tightens the final result is seen within six months. Generally the recovery is rapid and most patients can resume non-physical work within a couple of days.
