The microdermabrasion procedure has been dubbed by many people as the lunch time peel due to the short time it takes to perform the procedure. On an average the microdermabrasion peel takes only 20 to 30 minutes to complete. It is called a peel because the process literally peels the old dead skin cells from the face leaving the younger still living skin cells to show. In the microdermabrasion peel procedure, the patient will generally be placed under anesthesia because that actual procedure can be somewhat painful and many people report skin irritations after the procedure.
Once you are under anesthesia, the physician will then take the microdermabrasion machine’s wand and carefully pass it back and forth over the skin so that it can remove the dead skin cells. This removal process is done 1 of three ways depending on the type of procedure you have scheduled and of course which machines are available in your area.
The first means of performing the microdermabrasion peel is with the use of a standard microdermabrasion machine. This standard type of machine uses crystals which are composed of either zinc or aluminum oxide. It will then simultaneously spay the crystals on the face while sucking up the used crystals and dead skin cells. This procedure is similar to that of sandblasting.
The second type which is definitely growing in popularity which is the diamond microderm abrasion peel. In this procedure there is a diamond covered bit which is placed in the wand. While there are no crystals being blasted against the face, there is a vacuum that sucks the dead skin cells away. These skin cells also go through a removable filter which catches them and allows you to see what was removed after the procedure has been completed.
The final microdermabrasion peel type is that of the CO2 laser procedure which has also been dubbed laser resurfacing but still falls in the category of microdermabrasions. In this procedure there is not diamond tip or crystals, but rather a CO2 laser is used to burn away the dead skin cells which the machine then vacuums up.
Regardless of which technique you utilize for your microdermabrasion peel, one thing is for sure and that is when it is all said and done your skin will look amazing. |
