Lower Face Lift

The part of the face that disturbs most people when they look in the mirror and see that they are aging is the area of the neck and lower face. As the aging process commences, the elasticity we had in these areas when we were young loses it spring and the skin begins to sag.

Not only does the skin sag, but it becomes thinner as well. The places of the face where skin and tissue is tightly attached are the lower part of the ear and the corners of the mouth for example, and the skin from these points, seems to hang.

What Can You Expect from a Lower Face lift Procedure?

For those who are interested in just a lower face lift, you can expect to have the skin of your face moved up and back. Any excess skin will be trimmed and you will have minimal scarring right in front of your ear and down behind your ear as well. You will have some swelling after the procedure, but it is nothing near as severe as a full face lift. The swelling typically lasts for ten days. You may also experience some mild bruising as well.

A lower facelift will address the appearance of a chicken neck. Often there is fat removal during the process and the appearance of skin and muscle of the neck is dramatically improved. Plastic surgeons do not like to perform lower facelift on those people that smoke because of the higher risk of the death of the skin.

How to Tell if You Will Benefit

If you have been contemplating plastic surgery but are not yet ready for a full face lift, you can check to see if a lower lift will greatly improve your appearance. You should look at yourself in the mirror and put your hands right under your cheekbone. Pull up and back, towards your eyes, and if you think you look better than you might be the ideal candidate for a lower facelift.

Who is a Good Candidate

If you are not ready for the full face lift surgery but still want to eliminate your jowls and a double chin, having a lower lift may be for you. Ideal candidates for this type of procedure should be in relatively good physical health, be non-smokers, and have skin with a reasonable amount of elasticity. Candidates who will benefit the most from a lower facelift will have the corners of their mouth drooping and loose skin around the jaw and neck.

As with any surgical procedure, doing the proper research before you undergo any kind of treatments is always a wise move. Not only should you research the various options, but you will need to find a competent surgeon as well. Having this procedure done can give you the confidence you possessed in your younger years back and can have you feeling as if you are once again, ready to take on the world.
