Liposuction is a great way to lose fat and weight. When diets and exercise regimes have failed, liposuction is the answer. Many a times, people are very thin yet have double chins or have cellulite deposits in various parts of their bodies that can look very ungainly.

As compared to traditional lifts, which are done under general anesthesia, liposuction is generally done under local anesthesia. It’s less traumatic for the patients and less risky for the doctors too. Patients are numb in the body parts which undergo anesthesia. Usually lidocaine is used. This causes fewer traumas to the muscles and aides in the recovery of the patients. Patients can also respond doing the procedure which can be helpful to the surgeon as well. In fact patients can even go back to work the very next day. Most patients can even drive themselves home after the operation is over. Most liposuction operations are conducted as out patient procedures. This helps the patients to go back home.

Liposuction removes the fat instantly with minimum downtime. The fat cells that are removed are done so permanently. Of course people can get their weight back but not like before. Age and gender to make a difference to the cellulite deposits in the body. Most gain weight minimally and even if they do, gain proportionately.

Compression garments need to be won by the patient for a maximum of a week. Different procedures entail different types of compression garments. These must be worn as per the advice of the surgeons. The pads should be changed every 12 hours till the time that the leaking continues. After this it should be discontinued. The leakage will continue for a maximum of 2-3 days only. People can clean and scrub the area after the first 24 hours or as advised by the doctor and the surgeon.

Bruising and swelling may be there. For some people the bruising and the swelling subside within the first few days while for others it can remain for about a month. The surgeon has know way of predicting the bruising and the swelling in each patient. Patients who have thigh liposuction will face more swelling than those who have had chin liposuction. For the pain the surgeons will prescribe a pain killer like ibuprofen or Tylenol.

If the patient is experiencing any difficulty or a lot of discomfort, then they should visit the surgeon and their facilities immediately. Depending on the nature and the recovery status of the patients, the surgeon my call them for a visit after the operation is over.
