Laser Face Lift

A laser face lift is one that utilizes a beam of light that is powerful enough to heat the skin’s surface. This type of laser removes the surface layer of the skin while leaving a slight burn to the tissue. A laser facelift gets rid of all the dead cells and quite a few of the living as well and causes the underlying collagen to tighten a bit. When the surface of the skin regrows, the skin appears to be tighter and smoother than it was previously.

Differences between a Laser Face lift and a Traditional Full Face lift

Having a laser face lift means you will only be treating the surface of the skin and not the underlying muscle. It can greatly reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, but it doesn’t remove deeper lines or tighten the folds of loose skin and muscle as a traditional full facelift can.

Is There a Difference between a Laser Face lift and a Chemical Peel?

Though both procedures target burning the surface of the skin, having a laser facelift allows the medical professional performing the procedure to have a greater degree of control and precision. A chemical peel will only address the surface, but a laser facelift will address the collagen dermal tissue that lies beneath the surface by actually tightening it. This aids in smoothing wrinkles and fine lines quite effectively.

How Long Can I Expect Results to Last?

Though no treatment for your face or skin can ever completely turn back the hands of time, your face will always look younger than its years, once you have had a laser lift. In a few years time your appearance will revert back to the way it looked before you had the procedure, but it will always look younger than its chronological age as long as you take care of your skin.

Questions to Ask before Choosing a Surgeon

Your face should be treated with care, and care should be taken when you are choosing the medical professional who will be working on it. There are a few things you may want to ask before making your final decision.

  1. Has the doctor been certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery?
  2. Has the doctor had extensive experience in these types of treatments?
  3. Is the facility where the procedure is to take place, have full accreditation for general anesthesia?
  4. What does the quoted fee for the entire procedure include?
  5. Will the doctor be performing the laser facelift or will he be supervising other trainees?

Will it Hurt?

It can not be denied that a laser facelift will be painful. You will be prescribed a mild pain reliever to get you through the first couple of days, and after that, over the counter medications should take care of any lingering discomfort you might have.

How Will I Look?

There will be crusting and weeping of the affected area for the first few days of recovery. In a weeks time the weeping should stop and the region will become bright pink in hue. Over the next few weeks, the pinkness will gradually fade. It may take several months before your skin returns to a normal color and you may notice a difference in the texture of the skin as well.
