When it comes to a Lap Band surgery or any weight loss surgery for that matter, the postoperative diet plan is more than essential it is the life line for any postoperative weight loss patient. Regardless of the procedure type it is important to review and fully understand your diet starting from the point the operation is completed until the end of your life.
Immediately following your Lap Band surgery, you will be on a clear liquid diet. Why is this the same as any other procedure? Well it’s actually a good question bit the answer is simple really. You do not want to induce vomiting which can be attributed to eating more than will fit in this newly made pouch. Vomiting can cause the newly formed pouch to not only stretch but it can also lead to the stomach tissue sliding upwards through the Lap-Band. You do not want this stretching at all as it will prevent you from loosing your weight.
From this point you will be able to move onto liquid meals like bullion broths as a means of ingesting the necessary vitamins and nutrients to sustain life. From this point you can then move on to pureed foods that includes things like baby foods, yogurt and the like. The reason baby foods are recommended is due to the fact that they are rich in nutrients, vitamins and minerals needed to support a human’s daily functions.
Eventually you will be able to move on to tenderly cooked foods. While you will still not be able to eat a lot and you will have to eat slowly to prevent overeating you will be able to eat some foods that your taste buds remember. This will include things like fish and various ground poultry. If these solid foods cause you any discomfort or nausea then return to the liquid meals until such a point that you can safely return to solid foods. The important part is no matter what that you do what ever it takes to prevent vomiting brought on by overeating as the consequences can be dire.
Remember that the gastric band is designed to limit solid foods and not liquids. Should you feel like you need more then the suggestion is to keep low fat or fat-free soups around just in case you need them. |
