Jaw Implants

In men, a large jaw is a necessity because this has always been associated with masculinity. In women, a large jaw isn’t necessary but a weak jaw doesn’t do them any good either. A weak jaw will take away the balance of a facial contour and may divert away your beauty essence. Your facial features may be close to perfect and may not need further enhancement but if you have a weak jaw, it takes away the sense of balance thus making your face asymmetrical. Your neck may appear fleshy and your nose might appear too large if you have a weak jaw. Just think of your jaw as the lower part of a photo frame where you insert your perfect picture. If it hangs loose, then your perfect picture will just fall out of place.

If you think and feel like your jaw needs an enhancement, you can go to your plastic surgeon and talk about it. His first suggestion for your weak jaw is a jaw implant procedure to further enhance an already existent mandible structure. Your plastic surgeon can help you determine the proper jaw implant size and shape suitable for your desired look. He will examine your facial structure as well as some photographs of your face. He will then measure the distances between each of your facial feature and use your computer generated image to preview some of the possibilities of your new look. The surgery’s outcome will not be accurately the same with the computer imaging but it gives you the basic idea of the results if ever you will undergo the jaw implant procedure.

The jaw implant procedure takes about one to two hours and the jaw implants are placed directly on your jawbone. This will create a stronger, squarer, and a more defined jaw line. During the procedure, the incisions are made inside your lower lip area to make pockets where the jaw implants are inserted. You will have limited movement with your mouth and lips to avoid your incisions from opening and you will be subjected to dietary restrictions.

Swelling will be inevitable after the jaw implant surgery but it will subside in the first week. You may experience mild swelling from time to time over the next few months after the surgery. You will also be required to take some pain medications to avoid any discomfort as well as antibiotics to avoid any infection after the procedure.
