Nipple corrections are done on men and women who do not have normal nipples but have elongated ones or flat ones. Those who have hanging or asymmetrical nipples can also undergo surgery to correct them. In most cases such nipples are congenital, that is, the people have been born with them and they are natural and they normally do not cause any problems. Such nipples may run in the family.
Sometimes some underlying cause may result in different types of abnormal nipples. Ageing can also make the breasts sag and the nipples hang. Breastfeeding may lead to elongated nipples, which become too long. They slowly return to normalcy and need surgery only if they don’t. Physical trauma or infections and diseases like cancer or tumor may also result in a change in the nipples. If there is any discharge or pain or such similar problems, a doctor should be immediately consulted.
Nipples can be brought to normal by massaging or pulling them out by plucking them between the forefingers and the thumbs. Using breast pumps, nipple shields, and other such devices also help in making the nipples normal. Inverted nipples can be corrected through surgery or nipple piercing. There are several methods of nipple correction procedures. It is up to the patient and the surgeon to choose and decide which type of procedure has to be done, which anesthesia should be used and other related things.
Once the surgeon has decided on the method for the operation and the type of operation, then the patient has to listen to the doctor, get fit before the surgery, stop smoking and refrain from taking any medicines which could interfere with the procedure. The surgery itself is not complicated. Small incisions are made on the nipples under local or light sleep anesthesia. The offending tissues or the fat are removed and the wound is stitched back. This is done on an outpatient basis and needs no hospitalization.
The recovery period is just few days. Then the patient can see the results. Most patients are happy with the result, as there are no complications nor any side effects or risks in the procedure. Since the nipples will not go back to their original place before surgery, one can safely assume that the nipple correction is forever and the patient will not need another surgery for the same reason. The nipple corrections last for a long time. |
