Facial Fat Transfer

Facial fat transfers can be done as a single procedure and it can also be combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures such as facelift and facial implants. During the procedure, the fat is first extracted from an area of the body having excessive fat deposits like the abdomen, hips, thighs, or buttocks. Through a gentle suctioning technique similar to that of liposuction, the fat is extracted. It will undergo a cleansing and processing method before it is injected to the facial feature which needs the volume. By using a small cannula, the fat is then injected into the face.

The extra fat harvested can be frozen and kept by your plastic surgeon if you are considering having additional fat transfer procedures within a year. This means that your consecutive fat transfer treatments will cost you lesser amount of money since there is no need for the fat extraction phase of the procedure.

The results can be long lasting if not permanent. The only disadvantage of the facial fat transfer procedure is the need for “touch up” procedures when the fat is absorbed by the body. However, there are some doctors saying that if proper cleansing and processing is done on the fat, the results can be permanent without having the need for consecutive facial fat transfer treatments. They often advise the patients to seek out experienced plastic surgeons on facial fat transfers.

The only risks involved with this procedure are the swelling, numbness, and bruising of the facial feature injected with fat. Not all patients experience this though since the material used in the procedure is 100% natural fat cells extracted from their body. Unlike other implants, the fat does not move or shift because it becomes incorporated as a living tissue. The patient can return to their activities 24 hours after the procedure unlike other cosmetic procedures that requires you to rest and recover up to two to three weeks after the procedure.
