Many people wonder whether or not the chemical peel actually works. The real question you should be asking though is how it works. Just like any procedure there is bound to p\be people that it does and does not work on to the same extent. The chemical peel treatment is a great alternative to undergoing a face lift surgery. Furthermore many surgeons will recommend that their patients undergo a chemical peel or microdermabrasion along with their facelift since there are just some things the facelift alone cannot cure.
Most people though will agree, that depending on the chemical peel they undergo that the results are nothing less than amazing. But this also has side effects and risks associated with it. The chemical peel procedures can actually be broken down into three categories starting with the superficial chemical peel followed by the medium chemical peel and with the deep chemical peel being the most aggressive.
When thinking of the results of a chemical peel, you first have to look at the superficial category. In the superficial chemical category, the patient will have to undergo multiple treatments to gain the desired results but there are far less side effects associated with each procedure and the average patient can go right back to their daily life. Then with the medium chemical peel, the side effects are generally a swelling or redness of the skin that looks more like a sun burn that lasts for about two to three weeks. In the case of the medium chemical peel treatment you will still need to undergo multiple treatments but since it will just look like you got a sun burn there is no real harm. The final treatment or the deep chemical peel has the worst side effects starting with the fact that the acids used will give you 2nd degree burns. These burns cause the skin to stay red and swollen for up to three months. Furthermore the skin weeps fluid and there is the chance of getting crusty and flaky skin associated with it. But all in all it will produce the best possible results. |
