Diamond Dermabrasion

The growing alternative to the standard microdermabrasion is that of the diamond microdermabrasion technique. In the diamond microdermabrasion technique rater than using a wand that sprays crystals at the skin at high pressures, the physician is basically holding a Dremmel tool with a specialized diamond coated bit whose sole purpose in life is the carefully scrape off the outer most layer of skins cells from the epidermis which has long since been dead. Just like the standard technique, the diamond microdermabrasion machine also features a vacuum pump to suck away the old dead skin cells as they are removed from the epidermis.

The easiest way to compare the diamond dermabrasion technique to that of the standard technique is like comparing a mechanic to a jeweler. The mechanic uses a sand blaster which blasts aluminum oxide crystals at a piece of metal as a means of completely cleaning it while the jeweler uses his or her jeweler’s drill to carefully buff and polish a $50,000 diamond ring.

While the crystal type of the dermabrasion still holds the highest number in procedures, this also has to do with the number of clinics that have the diamond dermabrasion machine as well as the physicians who are qualified enough to use it. That is not saying that some physicians are not qualified to perform the diamond dermabrasion technique rather they lack the experience of using it.

Unlike the crystal type of the dermabrasion, the diamond dermabrasion technique collects the dead skin cells on a cotton filter for disposal which also means that you will actually be able to see just exactly what the physician removed during the procedure. Furthermore the diamond tips are not disposable and therefore have to go through a careful hermetical sterilization technique between uses. Make sure that you witness the physician place the new tip into the machine so you can be assured that it was removed from a sterile wrapper.

Above all like any other dermabrasion technique, make sure that you have all the information you can get about the person’s who will be involved in the procedure as well as their qualifications. Also ensure that you get an accurate estimate of costs as in most cases you will have to pay for the procedure up front which can sometime put a serious strain on your wallet.
