The criteria for bariatric surgery are fairly extensive. These medical conditions may include things like diabetes, arthritis, heart issues, a weak bladder or even high cholesterol or blood pressure.
To continue it is also important that you have a supportive circle of both friends and family who will help you maintain your weight loss goals and make sure you keep to your diet and exercises. You will also need to be well informed on the lifestyle and eating habit changes necessary to having a successful outcome from the gastric bypass procedure. Importantly you need to know and understand the risks associated with the bariatric surgery and be willing to accept them. Being committed to a healthy lifestyle as well as an exercise routine will also be necessary to qualify for the procedure.
By agreeing to all of the above requirements and as long as you have been free of cancer for at least five years prior to the surgery you will pass the criteria for a bariatric surgery unless certain criteria is met. These certain criterion which may prevent you from undergoing a bariatric surgery includes things like alcoholism and drug abuse as well as having an active liver disease like hepatitis. If you have been determined by a physiatrist or psychologist to have a psychiatric condition that has been untreated you will not be allowed to undergo a bariatric surgery.
