Coronal Forehead Lift

Plastic surgeons may perform browplasty using several procedures. Chief among them is the coronal forehead lift where an incision is made slightly behind the hairline from temple to temple. People undergoing coronal forehead lift procedures can expect their forehead wrinkles or worry lines to disappear. A coronal forehead lift will pull the forehead skin upward which indirectly affects the positioning of the brow line. People who wish to undergo browplasty to lift up the brows and remove worry lines should make the coronal forehead lift as their procedure of choice.

In specifically removing worry lines, plastic surgeons perform a mid forehead lift where incisions are made within the worry lines. Any excess skin is removed. The height of the brow is not affected. For direct brow lifting, skin and muscle is surgically removed by making an elliptical incision above the brows.

Aside from coronal forehead lifts, the only other browplasty procedure that addresses both brow positioning and forehead wrinkle removal is an endoscopic forehead lift where surgeons cut small incisions behind the hairline using a surgical telescope. The endoscope is fitted with a camera and surgical tools. This piece of equipment allows plastic surgeons to perform a basically similar coronal forehead lift procedure without having to cut a long straight line across the hairline.

For the moment, the endoscopic forehead lift is the procedure that surgeons recommend to their clients. However, there is some degree of risk that complications may arise. In cases like these, the surgeons fall back to the traditional coronal forehead lift procedure.

In avoiding invasive surgery through browplasty, people have the option of using botulinium toxin or botox. This chemical is injected into the skin in small amounts. Botox works to paralyze muscles and remove frown lines. Botox works by relaxing the muscles. It blocks acetylcholine from reaching the muscles. Acetylcholine is the chemical that causes muscles to contract. It is transmitted through the nervous system. With this forced muscular relaxation, the skin will eventually smooth out because of the muscles softening behind them.

Historically, the coronal forehead lift was the first instance of a browplasty ever recorded. It was performed by a German surgeon named Erich Lexer. From then on, the coronal forehead lift became the standard procedure for browplasty surgery. It wasn’t until only recently with the advent of the endoscope and botox that coronal forehead lifts are falling into the realm of primitive medicine. Be that as it may, the coronal forehead lift is still standard procedure. As mentioned above, when endoscopic forehead lifts fail, the plastic surgeons fall back on a coronal forehead lift. As far as botox is concerned, there is some degree of maintenance required. Periodic injections of the chemical are necessary every 4 to 6 months to maintain a smooth, frown free forehead. If we compare that to a one time discomfort of having some invasive surgery, a coronal forehead lift will come out on top in terms of convenience and economy in the long term.
