People choose to have brow or forehead lifts to improve their looks and look younger. Traditional brow lifts improve the forehead as a whole. But a coronal brow lift specifically applies itself to certain parts and pinpoints certain specific regions to correct. Coronal brow lift is the perfect procedure for those who want to raise their eyebrow lines.
In this method the incision is done from ear to ear and hence it is also called a ‘headband incision’. It removes the skin from the scalp just beyond the hairline. Actually the coronal brow lift is the simplest type of brow lift as the ear-to-ear incision reveals the entire muscles and bones under the forehead flap. Those who have small foreheads can go for it. Though it used to be quite common, this type of forehead lift is now no longer preferred as it has a tendency to make the patient lose his hair. Also, the recovery time, the numbness and possibly the swelling also may be longer as the incision is larger as compared with other brow lifts. Those with large foreheads or those with a receding hairline or bald cannot go for this type of coronal brow lifts for obvious reasons. There is not enough hair to hide the incision scars.
It has its plus points as well. It is the most effective and the simplest brow lift procedure. It also produces the best result. The best way to find out if a person is a suitable candidate for a coronal brow lift is to talk to the surgeon, discuss it with him, the various types of brow lifts, the methods, the recovery, the effectiveness, the percentage of satisfactory results and other such points and then come to a decision. It also depends on how the brows are positioned on a person’s face, whether they are symmetrical or not, whether there is any difference in their heights or they are of similar heights, thickness and shape.
The shape of the person’s forehead also plays an important role in deciding whether the candidate is suitable for a coronary brow lift or should go in for another method. The actual method consists of making an incision across the forehead, about 7cms into the hairline. The muscles and the bones can be seen and surgically trimmed or tightened as per the requirement. Sutures then close the incision, and a bandage is applied. The patient is then sent for recovery. |
