Collagen Treatments

There are many different forms of collagen treatments currently available to the medical profession. The reason for this is that collagen is in fact a protein and it is the most abundant and robust protein found in mammals. This collagen protein is composed of a fibrous strands of chained amino acids and can be found in bones, skin, tendons, soft tissue, organs and even the outer shell of each and every one of the cells in our bodies. As each and every one of us ages the production of this collagen protein begins to fade and before long we may see the signs of aging. It is this collagen protein deficiency that has been attributed to wrinkling and sagging skin as well as osteoporosis and other tissue relate failures both soft and hard.

A person may opt to undergo a collagen injection as a means to erase the fine lines and wrinkles on their face or even to augment their lips without the need of a surgical procedure and an implant. They may even be used to repair depressed scars that form due to the removal of underlying tissue like an appendectomy or even the removal of a cyst.

The treatments with collagen can come in two different forms which are classified as either human or bovine. In the bovine collagen treatments the collagen protein is a sterilized collagen that has been removed from cows whereas in the human form it is a sterilized human collagen protein. It is important that all potential candidates get screened for allergic reactions to bovine or dietary beef as well as lodicain which is an anesthetic found in most collagen injection forms.

Make sure that when deciding to undergo a collagen treatment that you seek out a qualified professional who has experience in the collagen treatments. Make sure you inquire as to the doctor’s credentials as well as the actual number of collagen treatment procedures that he or she has performed. The reason for this is that although any doctor can give these collagen treatments only the experienced ones will know how much collagen to use for a specific treatment. Just like any other type of procedure you want to make sure that the doctor has experience in that field. Just because any doctor can perform a surgery does not mean that you are going to ask a gynecologist to perform brain surgery. Granted comparing your looks to the functionality of the brain does not seem to be a fair comparison but lets face it, no one wants to have a botched treatment no matter how short term it is.
