Collagen is a commonly found form of protein in all mammals. It this collagen protein that gives bones their strength and skin its elasticity. The protein itself is a fibrous protein that has an excellent tensile strength and is considered to be the glue that holds our body’s together and without it our bodies would simply fall apart. Unfortunately with aging one of the things that start to fade and degrade the quickest is this collagen protein and thus leads to wrinkles in the skin and osteoporosis in the bones. The slow degrading of the collagen protein in our bodies is what is commonly referred to as the natural effects of aging and like many other nutrients in our body that degrades over time there is a way to replace them in the form of supplemental intake in the form of pills.
Collagen is a protein that falls in the classification of a superfamily and is a very complex protein that contains many essential amino acids that our bodies need to survive including hydroxylysine and hyroxyproline.
Several major pharmaceutical companies have been testing and releasing many different forms of collagen in a pill form as a means of counteracting the aging process however the amount of research done as to the long term effects of a collagen supplement has not been proven as of yet. As far as the various creams there has not been any substantial proof that the human epidermis can actually absorb the protein due to its large molecular size as well as the body’s ability to incorporate into the complex structure that makes up the skin. The same can go for the orally taken collagen supplements except for the fact that the supplement has to be digested prior to being absorbed which means that the body can then use the protein anywhere it needs it. This unfortunately may be more pressing than the sagging skin as collagen deficiencies also are known to cause osteoporosis and therefore the most common use of the orally taken supplement is that the body will use it on bones and internal organs before it gets used on the epidermis.
Regardless though the simple fact is that when you do take collagen protein supplements the body will use the protein and amino acids somewhere which may not be expected since the collagen protein composes over 25% of the body then there is literally millions of uses of the collagen supplement that the body will deem subconsciously as more important than others. |
