Collagen Injections

As we age the naturally formed collagen protein will generally fade leading to sagging and wrinkled skin. This collagen protein is the most abundant and robust material in the human body making up a total of more that 25% of the body’s protein resources and also help make the skin elastic and our bones strong. It is only natural that as we age, the best way to prevent the effects of aging is to replace the needed resources which may be in short supply. In many cases the collagen protein becomes scarce and therefore the use of collagen injections becomes handy. These injections can help things like deep nasolabial creases and laugh lines as well as raising an area which in turn smoothes the various wrinkles and creases found all over the face. Cosmetic surgeons will use this collagen injection in one of two forms which are either bovine or of human origin. They can use this as a filler for a non invasive lip augmentation which can see up to 6 months of effects before it becomes fully absorbed, they may also use it after a Botox injection should they find some areas of the face to be too deep, they can simply fill it with the collagen protein injection.

All potential collagen injection candidates will first be tested for allergic reactions to not only the bovine or dietary beef but to lodacaine as well which is an anesthetic found in the injections. One the patient has been cleared of any possible allergies then they will be able to schedule continuous treatments. This is important as the lasting effect of the collagen injection is only good for about 2 to 4 months at a time. Although the collagen filler is only good for 2 to 4 months of time it is still cheaper than undergoing a lip augmentation procedure with an implant or even a face lift and it is also non invasive which means almost no risks. This does not mean that there are no risks or complications associated with a collagen injection but it does mean that they are very few as well as very rare.
