Chin Fat Transfer

Fat transfer, otherwise known as Micro-lipoinjection or Liposculpture, is an all natural cosmetic procedure aiming to contour and reshape some body parts of an individual using one’s very own fat deposits. Facial fat transfer procedures are the most common type of procedure taken by patients in order to minimize their wrinkles and frown lines as well as fill in some of their facial features for added enhancement.

According to recent studies, the main causes of a hollow face are the natural aging process and exercise. At first, doctors thought the main problem of having a hollow face is the lax skin but through further research, they found out that the hollow areas of the face are due to loss of fat in the facial tissues. As we age, fat disappears from our facial features such as the cheeks, mid-face, chin, and lips. The facial fat transfer procedures aim to reshape and bring back the natural contours of the patient’s youthful image.

Redefining the chin area can be done in several ways of chin augmentation which includes chin implants, injectable fillers, and the chin fat transfer. The latter procedure is the most recommended by plastic surgeons because of its efficacy and safety. Since the only material used for the procedure is the patient’s own fat taken from another part of the body, the patient has no allergic reactions to it. Other chin augmentation procedures are engulfed by so many side effects and risks that can even endanger one’s life if further complications occur.

A less prominent chin can make some of your facial features appear larger than normal. This could mean that your neck appears fleshier and your normal sized nose appears bigger. By undergoing a chin fat transfer procedure, your receding chin can be enhanced to create more harmony between your different facial features.

The procedure starts with a gentle extraction of fat from a fattier area of your body such as abdomen, thighs, buttocks, or hips. The donor part as well as the recipient body part is subjected to local anesthesia to eliminate any discomfort during the procedure. After the fat is extracted, it will be processed and cleansed to remove any impurities that came with it. The cleansed fat cells will then be carefully injected to your chin taking into account the desired shape of the chin and volume of fat needed for enhancement.

The results can be long lasting if not permanent because there is minimal to almost non-existent movement in the chin area. If the chin fat transfer is done correctly, the fat injected may never be absorbed by your body which means that there is no need for another follow up chin fat transfer procedure.
