The chemical peel procedure is growing in popularity in the cosmetic field as many people are looking to alternatives to expensive surgical procedures as a means of revitalizing their skin. Furthermore the face lift does not remedy fine lines and wrinkles leaving the person who does undergo a face lift surgery to have to seek other means to get rid of these. Many people will even undergo a chemical peel in conjunction with a surgical procedure but it all depends on the person’s personal budget.
The chemical peel procedure itself last for about an hour in length and the only reason it lasts this long as the acids that are used in the procedure need time to penetrate the layers of skin and dissolve them. The average chemical peel will include a mixture of a diluted acid along with sugar cane, vinegar and even a fruit extract. This mixture will the bee applied to the area to be treated and will be left to sit for the remainder of the procedure. In many cases, the surgeon will also use a blue colored dye as a means of determining how deep the acid has penetrated and if it is time to remove the mixture.
From there the surgeon will then clean off all of the acid and other parts of the mixture leaving the younger still living layers of the epidermis fully intact. You will most likely have a mild chemical burn but depending on the treatment this redness can go away in a week or two. You may also have swelling as well as weeping skin. This is normal when it comes to the chemical peel procedure and will generally go away within a week or so.
It is important to protect this skin from any sunlight as there will be no serotonin or pigmenting in the skin to protect the skin from the harmful effects of the sun’s rays. You will also have to make sure to keep the raw skin clean and constantly have to clean up the weeping fluid as it will cause the skin to look flaky and crusty. |
