Cheek bone implants, sometimes called Malarplasties or Malar Augmentation, is a surgical procedure that involves enhancing the cheeks of the patient for a more defined look and contour. Prominent cheekbones have always been associated with beauty and youth that is one reason why cheek bone implants is one of the most sought after cosmetic procedures nowadays. There are a lot of celebrities especially in Hollywood who have undergone this procedure to enhance their beauty and improve their image. Sometimes being beautiful in the showbiz arena can launch your way into stardom.
Some of us pattern ourselves and our image after our favorite celebrities. We wanted to look just like them, perfect in every way possible. Others seek cheek bone implants to bring all their facial features into balance. There are various shapes and sizes of cheek implants available and they are made out of both solid and semi-solid materials. This way, you can choose the best and proper cheek implants for your new facial contour.
The cheek implants procedure can be combined with other facial plastic surgeries like face lift, brow lift, rhinoplasty, or eyelid surgery. When combined with other procedures, the cheek implants will be inserted through the incisions made for the other procedures. It can also be done as a single cosmetic procedure where small incisions can be made either through your lower eyelids or inside your mouth. The cheek bone implants will be inserted into the small pockets formed by the incisions and later closed with stitches or sutures. The sutures used in the external procedure of the cheek bone implant are removed after 10 days, while the sutures used in closing the incision inside your mouth will dissolve in about a week.
Before the cheek implants procedure is done, you will have a thorough discussion with your plastic surgeon regarding pre-operative and post-operative care as well as perform some laboratory testing on you to avoid any allergic reactions during the procedure. If you’re a smoker, you will be asked to stop smoking for two weeks prior to your surgery as well as continue not smoking for two weeks after the surgical procedure to accommodate proper healing process.
You have to avoid touching your cheek bone implants so that they do not move about. Allow some time for them to settle in and attach themselves to the cheek bone. If your implants displace or dislocate themselves because of pressure from outside factors, complications may occur and a second surgical procedure might be in place, but this time the procedure will remove your implants to avoid infection. Your implants may be replaced at a later time.
