Just like any other minor surgical procedure, breast lift surgery also has very short period of recovery. This would be followed soon after the surgery where the person should be under perfect rest so that the body heals much faster. Healing is a gradual process. Do not plan on returning to work for a week or more, depending on how you feel.
Your initial recovery from anesthesia may take up to two or more hours depending on each individual. Having you wrapped around with a warm blanket or a heating lamp will certainly help you to tolerate the initial wearing off from anesthesia.
To exit the fluids, a drain could be easily inserted. These drains will be removed within a few days of surgery. There will also be a little irritation around the adjacent sides of the wound.
Internal sutures might be present even though there are tissue glue to join the edges externally. Keep your incisions or suture line dry. Applying creams or lotions into the incision can also result in inflammation. The area of incision should be checked often and the stitches will be removed in a week or two. A little stinging feeling or a tugging sensation may also be experienced within.
It is important to regularly monitor the temperature. Infection could result in increased temperature. Call your surgeon and follow his instructions carefully. People taking birth control pills should be very careful as there are many antibiotics which has the ability to interfere with the birth control medication. For this reason, the contraception should be provided in another way.
There will be some amount of soreness and pain that may make restrict your movements. Consult your surgeon and take your medications according to his or her instructions. There is no reason to suffer. Pain has a direct relation with the recovery as it becomes faster with increased pain. There will be a small amount of swelling as it is a natural inflammatory action. It shouldn’t be a problem unless it is severe. The occurrence of bruises is not seen always. This will usually get better with gentle, warm compresses. In the beginning, getting a good sleep might be very difficult however you must make sure that you get enough sleep as the body needs time to recover and it gets to be the best when the body is at rest.
Sponge bath is highly recommended till the incision is fully closed and the sutures are healed completely. You may not be able to wash your hair for a while, if you must, ask your friend to assist you. You may not feel like doing any activities, but the surgeon would surely advice you to move around so that you are not likely to develop clots or have swelling or edema a lot longer. The doctor would also suggest certain instructions like not to exercise or activities which might involve more strength for a minimum of 3 to 4 weeks. Allow yourself a proper healing time so that you are back to your normal self soon.
