Breast Lift

Breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a coordination of surgeries designed to lessen the degree of breast drooping. Drooping occurs due to various reasons such as ageing, weight loss, bra use history, breast size, smoking history and gravity.

Breast drooping is related mainly to pregnancy and weight loss. While nursing a child, the mother’s breasts are enlarged and after that period of feeding, those glands that are responsible for enlargement retain their old form and gradually loosen the skin along with stretch marks. Women who have experienced tremendous weight loss in fact result in breast shrinking and finally with an odd shape.

Mastopexy can be done if the breasts are pendulous but of a moderate size, lacking firmness, and in cases where the nipples and areolas are positioned below the breast crease. Breast lift can also be done in particular cases like if one breast is larger than the other, but the surgery may not last longer in certain cases for large breasts.

Due to breast lifting, the breasts can be restored to a more natural position along with skin tightening with the removal of excessive skin. It helps to retain the elastic tone. The best candidates are those who are free of any major illness like heart disease, etc. The candidates should be prepared to cope with the surgeries and follow ups before and after the surgery. Their mind should be prepared for the breast lift surgical sculpture. The surgery depends on the breast defect and nature of the tissues.

Mastopexy becomes a must when dieting and exercise becomes a failure as it takes time to affect the hormone levels. The overall body mass may decrease, with no change in breast size. This makes a woman to think about mastopexy. The most important thing when planning for such a surgery is to consult a doctor with experience in various plastic surgeries. It is also advisable to consult more than one physician and go for the majority opinion.

There are internal breast lift surgeries, which are performed under local anesthesia. The benefits of this surgery, is that it minimizes discomfort and bruising, and the scars are less obvious. Mastopexy can be done to very large breasts that cause back pain, shoulder pain, breast pain, breast asymmetry, intertrigo, and thoracic outlet syndrome.

During the follow ups, the doctor will be discussing about the various factors, including the risks, benefits and even the choice of anesthesia and total cost of the surgery. It is important to know that most insurance policies do not cover the cost of plastic surgeries.
