Breast Implant Sizes

Women go in for breast augmentation or breast implants when they feel the need to increase their breast size or reshape the contour. This is quite a common procedure lasting for an hour or two. With the dramatic increase in size and shape, a woman feels more confident and satisfied. The plastic surgery of the breast consists of making an incision at a suitable place, usually behind the breast tissues or above the breast muscle and inserting a suitable implant in it. The incision may be made from the armpit, or from the naval or at the areola or below the breast. The implant may be a silicone cover which is filled with saline or silicone gel or thick gel.

Earlier paraffin, cotton wool and other materials were used, experimented and discarded until silicone gel was found to be the most suitable. However because of a slight threat of cancer, silicone was banned in the US for some time till it was proved that the danger is a very small one.
Most women prefer the classic size 36 and feel that this is the ideal one  The breast implant sizes depends on the body structure, the age, the health of the patient, the availability of the breast tissue to cover the implant and many other factors. . And the implant ranges in volume from 120 milliliters to 850 milliliters.

Besides, the implants can be smooth or soft, and depend on the material used. Silicone implants are smooth, and feel like semi solid gel. These are now preferred over saline implants mainly because the saline implants may leak or rupture and be absorbed by the body. The breast then has an unfinished look, is wrinkled and may not be smooth.

Though there are no restrictions of increasing the bust size, one has to consider the age and the skin availability of the patient. Young girls may have a tight skin which has to be enlarged by inserting saline in a tissue expander until the necessary enlargement is reached. The implant can then be done. Sometimes a bigger implant needs bigger skin tissue. In such cases skin from other parts of the body can be attached and the implant put under it.
