Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation also referred to as augmentation mammoplasty is a variety of breast surgery involving the insertion of silicone implants placed beneath the breast tissue or behind the breast muscle. This type of surgery will change the total outlook of your physical beauty, resulting in more charm.

Augmentation mammoplasty is a long-term process that includes consultation, surgery, and postoperative recovery. It may take weeks to months’ time for a complete result of your breast alteration. There should be a thorough communication between the patient and the surgeon to make this surgery a success. During the detail discussion with the doctor the patient will have to be free to discuss her family, social, and medical history including drug allergies and current medications. The patient will be explained about the type of implants and their size, though the patient can make suggestions, it is always ideal to follow the doctor’s advice as we may have false pictures about breast augmentation. Preceding the operation, the patient will have to obey certain instructions put forth by the surgeon to avoid further complications.

The surgery can take up to two hours and the implants will be placed accordingly as discussed before. Usually, augmentation mammoplasty is done as an outpatient, and if there are no signs of risks, you will be discharged the same day from the hospital. The surgery will be performed under general anesthesia either through IV or through inhaling sedatives. Postoperatively, the patient will be groggy most probably drowsy, but will gradually recover from this. Anesthesia might cause temporary side effects as shivering, headache, throat ache, nausea, vomiting which is not that serious, as these symptoms will subside slowly once you are released from the sedatives. It is very important that you make ware to the doctor if you had any allergy to anesthesia in the past.

The incision is made either in the crease of the breast or in the armpit. The scars fade slowly, but this may vary from the skin type and texture of each person. Surgeons nowadays use absorbable stitches so there is no worry about the pain during suture removal. The sutures are to be kept to avoid infection, because this may cause further complications like bleeding.

Although augmentation mammoplasty surprisingly grants a balanced figure and more youthful shape to your breasts, it is important to know that capsular contracture may rupture the implant, which may lead to one or more preceding surgeries at times.
