Botox has been growing in the number of procedures a year at an enormous rate and as it continues to grow there is also the growing concern of the possibility of safety concerns in association to the Botox treatments. There are a great number of critics out there whose sole goal is to abolish the use of Botox as a cosmetic procedure by discrediting not only the drug but the doctors around the world who perform the procedures. These critics will stop at nothing in an attempt to give the Botox procedure a bad name so as to get it off the shelves and away from those who want to look younger. It is not clear as to why these critics are doing what they do as Botox has over ten years of history in the cosmetic field. The suggestion is that these critics of Botox are critics only because they have noting else better to do since all of the other causes are overwhelmed with supporters.
Botox was originally developed as a treatment for those who suffer from chronic muscle spasms. These chronic muscle spasms can range from stuttering to bladder issues. It did not take long though for some one to realize that when they would do a procedure to stop chronic eye blinking that the patient’s face seemed to look younger and without wrinkles. From there it was all up hill as the Botox treatment gained a reputation for making its patients look younger through the means of relaxing the muscles with the neurotoxin known as Botox.
For starters with regards to Botox safety, it is approved by the American Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of aging and wrinkles. The FDA did their own studies and decided that the use of Botox was in fact safe. Because of the fact that this procedure is safe there have been well over a million patients of the Botox injections worldwide.
Just like anything else though there are some risks, dangers and complications. In general the chances of any patient suffering from these risks are very slim assuming they choose to go with an experienced and certified professional. The product itself is in fact a neurotoxin which is produced in a lab from the same bacteria that creates the botulism food poison. If used incorrectly then this neurotoxin can migrate through the body and into various muscle groups. In some very rare cases the Botox managed to migrate to the lungs or heart in which can be very serious and potentially deadly. But this is a very slim chance as long as you make sure you are having an experienced and certified physician perform the Botox injections. |
