One of the possible Botox side effects associated with the Botox injections that are the most commonly asked about is whether the Botox injections will be painful and if they are how much pain is one to expect from the procedure. The truth is that the amount of pain seen will vary from person to person depending on their own pain threshold as well as many other factors. For most patients this pain is not technically caused by Botox and therefore it is generally brief and very mild. The pain associated with Botox generally is caused by the technique that the physician employs when doing the actual injections. Botox’s main goal is to relax the facial muscles that cause wrinkles through the means of paralyzing them with a botulism neurotoxin. The results of the procedure can be noticed immediately since the Botox is injected directly into the muscle group to prevent the neurotoxin from migrating to other muscle groups.
Assuming that the physician you choose for your Botox injection has ample experience in giving the injections, then the chances of you feeling pain is slim to none. It is like going to the doctor’s office for blood tests. If the nurse is new, then the drawing of blood can be painful, but if the nurse has been drawing blood for years, chances are you may not even feel the needle going in. You will still feel it leave though.
One thing that any potential Botox patient must bear in mind is that Botox is a neurotoxin that is designed to paralyze. This means that it is also good at numbing the nerves as well, so as long as the physician has a lot of experience in the procedure then the nerves in the area of the injection will also become paralyzed when the muscles are. If you are worried that there may be pain, then just think back to that Tim Allen movie where he gets the Botox injections and his face became so numb that he could poke it with a fork. Although it is an over exaggeration of the procedure it is still the concept behind it. |
