Botox Injection

The Botox injection is an injection of a neurotoxin that is produced in a lab from the same bacteria that cause botulism. This toxin is then purified and diluted prior to being used by your physician in a Botox injection procedure. When you first go in for a consultation, the physician will tell you which wrinkles and folds can be repaired with the use of Botox and which ones cannot. From there you will need to make a decision on what treatment you would like with your Botox injections. The physician will then decide which groups of muscles that he or she has to treat with the Botox injection in order to get the desired results you are looking for.

The Botox is then injected directly into the muscle group. The physician does this for a reason as if it were not directly injected into the muscle group it could migrate to other muscle groups. You have to remember that as a neurotoxin, the Botox injection’s sole job is to paralyze the muscle group which keeps them from contracting and thus prevents the wrinkles and folds from showing. The results of these injections generally last for about 6 months before it is time for another injection.

Botox was initially developed back in the 1970’s as a means of preventing children from squinting. From there it was found that Botox could also fix things like stuttering and bladder control issues. The reason for this is that they all have one thing in common. Stuttering and some bladder control issues are caused by forceful spontaneous muscle contractions. A patient who has a stuttering problem receives the Botox injection and the stuttering simply stops. Later Botox was found to stop other involuntary muscle spasms like those which cause some one to blink forcefully and repeatedly without a need to. The physicians soon started noticing that people who had been treated for facial muscle spasms also had less wrinkles and folds as a result of the treatment. From then it has been all up hill and Botox has grown to be one of the most popular choices for remedying facial wrinkles and folds like frown lines and crows feet.
