Body Chemical Peel

When it comes to the chemical peel, some people want it done on the face and others have their own areas of skin they want repaired. The good news is that a chemical peel can treat all types of skin on your body as long as the skin is not too sensitive to the acids used in the procedure. While you can undergo a facial chemical peel procedure, you can also undergo a body chemical peel in conjunction with or as a stand alone procedure. These body chemical peels are done generally using the trichloroacetic or glycolic acids. If this procedure is not performed by an experienced and licensed professional there is a good chance that you can receive serious burns from the acid which may or may not end up causing disfiguring scars.

Unlike a facial chemical peel, due to the size of the treatment area the acid dilution may be greater and also the surgeon may decide on many small treatments versus a single large procedure. The body chemical peel also calls for a little more skill due to the fact that the skin’s thickness and ability to resist the treatment varies greatly. For example, a person who is undergoing a body chemical peel will find out that the skin in their upper and lower back may be thinner than their abdomen but the chest skin will be thinner by far as well as less resistive to the treatment. The arms and legs generally can handle a less diluted acid versus the abdomen etc.

Usually the surgeon will opt for multiple treatments spaced out about a month or two in between. The reason for this is that they will focus on one area first and then give that area a chance to heal before moving on to the next area. This also allows them to use different levels of dilution in the chemical peel’s acid based on the skin in the area to be treated. Make sure you speak to your surgeon so that you can figure out the best treatment plan for you that can work around your schedule because the last thing anyone wants is to have to go to their best friends wedding only a week after having an exposed part of their body treated.
