Autologous Fat Transfer

What is autologous fat transfer? It is also called microlipoinjection which is a procedure involving using one’s own body fat to plump up sunken or thin areas of the face or to add volume in other the body parts desired. This is one kind of facial rejuvenation procedure that doesn’t involve face lift or other forms of plastic surgery. It can restore attractive contours to your facial features as well as form shapelier body parts.

Autologous fat transfer procedure involves three simple steps that can last about an hour before the entire procedure is done. The first step is the gentle liposuction of some excess fats found in the patient’s abdomen, thighs, or buttocks. The second step is the isolation and cleansing of the fat cells extracted from the patient. The third step is the injection of the cleansed fat cells into the targeted facial areas needing the enhancement such as lips, chin, cheeks, lower part of the eyes, temples, upper and lower jaws, forehead, in between the brow areas, nose bridge, and other parts requested by the patient.

Autologous fat transfer is a very good, safe, and effective cosmetic procedure for those not wanting artificial methods of cosmetic surgery like facial implants. The usual patients undergoing autologous fat transfer are people caught up with the natural aging process and the young ones who wanted to enhance their beauty and image using their own fat.

There are several benefits of fat transfer procedure. It corrects problems regarding the aging of the face by using 100% natural fat substance. The fat material used did not come from an animal, or cadaver, or synthetic product. It came from the patient’s own fat deposit which can be very versatile when used as an injectable since the fat can also be used for many facial imperfections such as scars and depressions in the skin. The results of facial fat transfer are very long lasting as compared to other cosmetic injectables. In addition to the various benefits of fat transfer, there are no allergic reactions because the fat cells used came from the patient’s body.

The risks involved with fat transfers are very minimal compared to other cosmetic procedures. Swelling, numbness, and bruising are possible risks that can last for several days but not all patients experience these risks. Some patients are even reported to be able to get back to work the very next day after the fat transfer procedure.
