Arm Lift Inpatient or OutPatient Procedure

Before an arm surgery is done, your plastic surgeon would have already told you about post operative care as well as some pre-operative care. He would also have told you about how the arm lift procedure is done and how long shall it last. I’m sure he didn’t miss the part to tell you that an arm lift procedure is done on an outpatient basis. This means that you can go home right after the surgical procedure, no hospital stay is necessary.

So if the brachioplasty is considered an outpatient procedure, you need someone to drive you home after the surgery. You can ask someone or one of your family members to do this. It is also important that someone should stay with you for the first night after the surgery for proper precaution if ever there are some indications of any surgical complication. Since you were properly informed of the proper after surgery care, you should have created a nice and suitable recovery area in your home. It should be very accessible to all the things you need like ice packs, prescription medicines, dressings, and a few others more. The most important thing you should remember is to have your recovery area near a telephone for easier communication access, if needed especially in emergency situations.

The prescribed medicines such as antibiotics and pain relievers should be taken in at a regular time interval, just the way your doctor instructed you. Antibiotics are prescribed to you as to avoid any infections from occurring. However, if you feel a slight or big change in your body temperature, there may be an infection going on inside your body. You must consult your plastic surgeon right away once temperature is elevated. Don’t just intake a pain reliever whenever you feel pain. Pain relievers for the post operative care are designed to prevent you from feeling any pain. If you’re a smoker, you will be required to stop smoking two weeks prior and after the operation. This will help you heal your wounds faster.

If ever you experience shortness of breath, chest pains, or unusual heart beats, it is best to seek medical attention immediately. That’s why it is very necessary to have your phone near your recovery area for easier access. In addition, you should avoid any strenuous activities at all costs as to avoid putting pressure on your surgical incisions or applying excessive force on it.
